Travel Diary: Stone Mountain

By now you may know our love of adventure and of camping. As a boy mom, I have fully embraced the camping life and truly love disconnecting from everything and spending time outdoors.

Recently our family decided to visit Stone Mountain, GA during its annual Christmas celebration and stayed at the campground. While we usually camp in our tent, we rented a Yurt…a first for us.

We absolutely loved the Yurt especially because it had heat and air and furniture. It was definitely Glamping and I was here for it! The Yurts at Stone Mountain overlook the lake, have a front and back deck, two picnic tables (one on each deck), a grill and a fire pit.

The inside of the Yurt comes equipped with a queen size bed, futon (turns into a full bed) and twin bed, rocking chair, night side tables and a high top with chairs. It was the perfect size for our family and even had plenty of room for the baby’s Pack N Play.

On our first night we hung out at the camp site, which is one of the nicest and cleanest we have visited, had a cookout, played games and roasted marshmallows by the fire.

Day two was all about adventure and jam packed. We hiked Stone Mountain and took the Sky Train down, and then found the most charming and authentic German Restaurant in the quaint downtown. We had quite the feast for lunch including a pretzel with beer cheese and mustard, Schnitzel with spaetzle, German sausage combo, sauerkraut and potatoes all paired with a beer sampler. It was INCREDIBLE and highlight recommended.

After our lunch fest we returned to camp, napped and then got ready to head back to Stone Mountain for the Christmas spectacular! We enjoyed the event, but it was more crowded than expected. Definitely thought it would be easier to navigate with Covid, but there were a lot of people. We were unable to ride the train (next time we will arrive earlier and do that first) or do the 4D ride, but overall we had a good time enjoying the lights, music, performances and more to celebrate the season!

Adventure Awaits

We definitely plan to return to Stone Mountain perhaps next time during the summer. I also discovered they have stationary campers you can rent at the campsite, which is on the list for next time. We want to eventually buy a camper, so we figured the rental option would be a great trial!

If you’re looking for a fun, family friendly adventure, 10/10 recommend Stone Mountain and it’s campground.

Happy Adventuring,

Ivette
